Beginner Pottery Wheel Series - 4 Weeks
Ages 17+
Our beginner series is designed for adults looking to learn the fundamentals of making pottery on a pottery wheel. Over this 4-week program we will take you through all stages of pottery production, from wedging, centering and achieving basic forms on a pottery wheel, to trimming and glazing. This course is required to access our Open Studio Memberships, which allow you to work independently and build on the skills learnt over this 4-week program. You will also learn studio safety, protocols and proper disposal and cleanup.
Please note working on a pottery wheel requires strength in your hands, wrists, shoulders and back. If this may be an issue for you, please contact the studio to discuss prior to registering.
Class 1:
-Introduction to the studio and overview of the process of how pottery is made.
-Wedging clay in preparation for the wheel.
-Centering clay on a pottery wheel.
-Instruction on techniques to create basic forms like bowls and cylinders.
-Cleanup.
-3 hours.
Class 2:
-Refresher on wedging and clay preparation.
- We will continue to build on the skills learned week 1.
-Cleanup.
-3 hours.
Class 3:
-Learning to trim using the pots you made week 1 and 2 on the wheel.
-Decorating techniques explored such as carving and adding embellishment to pots made weeks 1 and 2.
-2.5 hours.
Class 4:
-Introduction to types of glazes and underglazes and glazing techniques.
-You will glaze all the pots made in weeks 1 and 2.
-2.5 hours.
Cost of this series: $350.00 plus GST.
Cost includes:
-Basic Pottery Tool Kit (which you keep).
-All instruction.
-10lbs of clay (additional clay may be purchased at front desk).
-Use of studio glazes, underglazes and kiln firing of finished pieces.
**You must bring your own apron, plastic bag and towel to class as we have no onsite laundry.
